Among the southern cities, close to the dunes of the Sahara, you can find green, fertile oases, like the small town of Skoura. With vast palm groves that were laid out in the 12th century, and more recently created exotic gardens, the area is beautiful and rendered even more stunning by the impressive High Atlas mountains that rise up behind and form a snowy backdrop in winter. Skoura itself is often called the ‘Valley of One Thousand Kasbahs’ – and for good reason. Discover the ancient kasbahs and the famous Rose valley on your journey through the Moroccan south.

Set in the heart of the Skoura palm grove, L’Ma Lodge boasts traditional architecture, hundreds of palm and fruit trees and a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. Its tranquil gardens contain gently flowing water channels – helping to inspire its name (L’Ma means ‘water’ in Arabic). With rooms that are bright and spacious, excellent food and high quality service, this is a guesthouse that you won’t want to leave!

Jardins Dar Ahlam

DAR AHLAM

Housed in a 19th century kasbah and set in a sultan’s former hunting grounds, Dar Ahlam truly is a ‘House of Dreams’. Privacy and luxurious isolation are a priority: from the moment you arrive you will feel like you are staying in your own personal kasbah. There are no set meal times and you can enjoy each meal served privately in different locations in the stunning grounds. The service is impressive, as is the attention to detail. We cannot recommend this location highly enough!

4X4 OR HIKING TRIP TO ROSE VALLEY

From Skoura you can easily visit the beautiful Rose Valley where Morocco’s rose harvest is cultivated. It lies just at the foot of the High Atlas Mountains as they meet the Dadès Valley and has great scope for hiking or for day visits by 4x4. In May there is a three-day festival during the harvest that celebrates the flower which is used in perfumes, rose water and pot pourri. A beautiful location rich with local Berber culture.
