Taroudant is a unique and unforgettable destination in Morocco: enclosed by remarkably well-preserved, golden-brown pisé walls, it was once briefly the country’s capital and now continues to be a thriving yet laidback and friendly trading town – a crossover point between the Saharan south and the route north to Marrakech and beyond. You can stroll through the old medina and the souq hassle-free, walk along the ramparts, enjoy the pedestrianised main square in the late afternoon or take a cycle tour to discover more of the history of this important Berber town. Beyond the medina itself is the fertile Souss valley and the majestic, but still under-explored western High Atlas. Taroudant is a gem in Morocco and we can’t recommend it highly enough.

Where To Stay

Dar Al Hossoun is rightly renowned for its spectacular and breathtaking gardens, designed by internationally acclaimed architects and botanists, with over 900 of species of plants from all over the world. With beautiful, individually decorated rooms, constructed from traditional rammed earth, and with the excellent food which you can enjoy anywhere on the large premises (on the roof terrace, for example, overlooking olive groves and the Atlas mountains), a stay at Dar Al Hossoun offers you the utmost in relaxation, beauty and luxury.

A great way to explore Taroudant is by bike and in a gentle half’s day tour you can get a good feel for this ancient city. Circle the centuries-old walls and follow the winding streets of the medina, stopping whenever and wherever you want to discover more…

From Taroudant you can also take a highly scenic drive through the Souss valley to the fertile Oasis de Tiout, under an hour away.
